First Attempt at HDR

Ahhhhh. HDR (High Dynamic Range). Here’s what Wikipedia told me:
high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.
Think about it this way: creating a high dynamic range is almost-sort-of equivalent to the way you see things with your eyeballs! If you’re still confused and would like to know more you can read up on HDR.
In any case, the image you see above was my first attempt at an HDR conversion. I took 3 exposures with 2 stop differences (in numbers: -2, 0, +2 exposures) and combined then in Photoshop with the help of a plugin called Photomatix.
HDR, in general, could be very hard to achieve successfully. A lot of the HDR material I see online these days have a lot of ghosting because apparently people think that the crazy surreal effects looks cool. I tend to disagree because that’s taking the concept of what HDR is meant for and converting it into some crazy action that destroys your images with an insanely ugly effect! ARGH!!
Granted, my first attempt isn’t the best, but give me a break - it’s my first attempt. I’ve gotten some good constructive criticism from the Flickr HDR group and I’m going to apply those comments to my future HDR creations.

I couldn't agree with you more about the whole long exposure shots and trippy wild lighting conditions. The effect, like most modern applications CAN be wonderful but is primarily used for cheap trick. I love the above photograph, it looks like it was a successful first attempt which probably means you're well into that study already. It's a reminder about how indecisive the weather is in the CO. Great job not capturing any cabs.
Thank you!
this one is nice, but there are plenty wordpress that i would love to use on blogger
