First Attempt at HDR

Road Decision

Ahhhhh. HDR (). Here’s what Wikipedia told me:

imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.

Think about it this way: creating a is almost-sort-of equivalent to the way you see things with your eyeballs! If you’re still confused and would like to know more you can read up on HDR.

In any case, the image you see above was my first attempt at an HDR conversion. I took 3 exposures with 2 stop differences (in numbers: -2, 0, +2 exposures) and combined then in Photoshop with the help of a plugin called Photomatix.

HDR, in general, could be very hard to achieve successfully. A lot of the HDR material I see online these days have a lot of ghosting because apparently people think that the crazy surreal effects looks cool. I tend to disagree because that’s taking the concept of what HDR is meant for and converting it into some crazy action that destroys your with an insanely ugly effect! ARGH!!

Granted, my first attempt isn’t the best, but give me a break - it’s my first attempt. I’ve gotten some good constructive criticism from the Flickr HDR group and I’m going to apply those comments to my future HDR creations.

Keep zooming,

Zoomrix.
